Apple iPad, UK Operators and the Micro SIM

Apple-iPadThe unveiling of the Apple iPad has been a very successful event. Though the tablet has had a mixed range of reaction ranging from totally impressed to complete lack of interest, it is hard to deny that Apple is tapping into something big with their tablet.

The iPad is a touch screen tablet that comes with a large 9.7 inch screen and an Apple made A4 processor clocked at 1GHz. The device is able to connect to WiFi and in its 3G version, can use micro SIM cards for 3G access and it even has GPS.

Browsing on the device is easy as the screen resolution is a large 1024 x 768 pixels. The LCD technology used allows for very rich and solid colors. The black on the LED lit screen is one of the blackest blacks you will find on a handheld device. The device is fast and responsive, able to handle heavy browsing and even 3D games. What it does lack is support for flash and multi tasking capabilities.

Lacking flash means that some websites cannot be accessed partially, and there are even some which cannot be accessed at all. Multi tasking should have been a cinch for the device’s processor, but for reason, Apple has decided that the feature not be present in the device yet. Many are hoping that these lacking features will be implemented in either the final consumer product or through and online patch.

Anyway, speaking of the Micro SIMs stated above, Orange Mobile UK is confirmed to be in talks with Apple (ahead of O2 and 3 Mobile). Would Orange be among the first to manufacture this mini-SIM card? Most likely, as they, O2 and Vodafone are the companies that do have the resources to push through with micro SIMS.
