The Stylish New BlackBerry Style

November 4th, 2010

Clamshell phones are not the phone that comes to your mind when it comes to Blackberry phones. However, the new Blackberry Style 9670 is set to change all that with its revolutionary looks and amazing feature list. The phone to start off with is available in two different colours that only enrich the style of this phone. Available in black and purple, the phone is stylish to look at in both of those.

The phone has two displays so that you can know nearly all the necessary information without having to open the phone itself. The internal display has a 360 x 400 resolution while the external display has a 240 x 320 resolution. The display supports nearly 65k colours and is quite simply brilliant to look at. The phone comes with the usual ‘Blackberry Kit’ that includes a Trackpad and a full QWERTY keyboard among many others like full email support and so on.

You can enjoy ultra-fast downloads with the new Blackberry Style 9670 as the phone has Wi-Fi and 3G connectivity. The phone is also super responsive at connecting to the networks. The phone has GPS and Blackberry Maps that offer lifetime navigation for free. This means that you can enjoy the world without having to rely on somebody else for directions. The phone offers 4.5 hours of talk time and nearly 14 hours of music playback time as it comes with a very powerful 1150 mAh battery.

The phone runs on the new Blackberry OS 6 and one of its main features is that, it allows multi-tasking unlike previous versions of the operating system. RIM has announced that the phone will be available from the 19th of October, so the phone should be readily available for sale right now in the UK markets.

Microsoft to Offer Security Package: Just Like BB Protect

July 15th, 2010

Hot on the heels of the announcement that RIM is not moving to the closed beta testing phase for the BlackBerry Protect system, Microsoft has also let it be known that they will be offering a similar service for all Windows Phone 7 owners. And that is actually a good thing. Considering how impressive the BlackBerry Protect is turning out, having similar functions for other mobile handsets is a great idea and it is about time that Microsoft started jumping on the bandwagon.

According to the recent reports, it seems that there will hardly be any differences between the BB Protect service and what Microsoft is proposing.

The new service will allow Windows Phone 7 users to sign up for the service and register their handset. After doing this, the online account can be used to remote access the smart phone. From here, it would be possible to shut down, lock or even completely wipe the memory of the handset completely clean. It is also possible to turn on the GPS on the device in order to locate if physically and have it ring or alarm if needed.

Naturally the device would need to be in an area with WiFi or 3G access for this to take place. If the phone is outside connectivity, then it is possible that the commands would not be activated in the handset.

Just like the Protect and the Apple MobileMe service, of Microsoft’s new service will also be able to upload and back up phone content online (with up to 25GB of storage space). Unlike the MobileMe, this service will be given free of charge (no word yet if Protect will also have fees).

Right now, this new feature from Microsoft is being called as the Windows Phone Live service, though it is possible that MS will give it a proper name change in the coming weeks.

Vlingo Now Available for the Android

June 7th, 2010

Fans of the old BlackBerry Vlingo app will be happy to know that the software is now heading to the Android Market. This impressive little gadget will give you full hands free operation –well mostly, by reading out content to you as you handle more important things such as paying attention to the road while driving.

The Vlingo app’s function is quite simple; it will give you text-to-speech capability in plenty of functions. This is most useful when you need to check that latest email or text message but cannot afford to spend the time looking at your phone the whole time. As long as you are wearing a headset (or simply in a location where you can hear your phone well), you will not have any problems.

Not that Vlingo will not function when used with the speaker phone (most handsets have one anyway), but this is certainly not recommended if you are in a public location where other people may be able to overhear the contents of the messages that are being sent. After all, the last thing you want your colleagues in the office to hear is what the latest insider tips you are receiving. And this is why it is recommended to make use of a headset.

Privacy issues aside (which can be easily remedied anyway), the Vlingo app is immensely useful if not somewhat of a novelty function for some. It is pretty much expected that not everyone will need to have map data being read out to them (and Google already provides free voice guided sat nav), but there are certainly plenty of people who will find good use for Vlingo –many BlackBerry users did after all.

This paid app is already available for download at the Android market and is a well recommended download for people who are often on the go.

Striker Finally Gets A Real Name: Blackberry Pearl 9100

December 19th, 2009

BlackBerry Pearl 9100The Blackberry Pearl 9100 is rumored to be released soon. No one, at least no one outside the company, knows exactly when. If they do, they aren’t telling. The Pearl 9100 is expected to be one of the newest additions to the Blackberry family. The Storm 2 and Bold 9700 are its predecessors.  Some people claim that the 9100 will be very similar to the Bold 9700 in terms of design and function. However, from what we’ve heard, their will definitely be some changes. If there weren’t, why would RIM (Research In Motion), the company that designs and manufactures the Blackberry, even bother?  Well, money would be the obvious answer, but I digress.

The Pearl 9100 will supposedly be a 3G mobile phone. It will feature a camera with LED flash. There is some talk that KIM will ditch the full QWERTY keyboard used on the Bold 9700 and instead, replace it with a SmartType design. The optical trackball is also supposedly out and in its place, an optical trackpad. The battery used in the Pearl 9100 is also supposed to be redesigned.

Because there has been no official announcement in regard to the Blackberry Pearl 9100’s specifications, much of the information that can be found comes from “inside” sources and leaked pictures. Because of this, there is a possibility that the specs might change before the phone hits the market.

By all accounts, the Blackberry Pearl 9100 looks to be another great design by RIM, the company that manufactures the Blackberry series. It is believed to be very similar in appearance to the Blackberry Bold 9700, with an improved keyboard (SmartType from full QWERTY), optical trackpad, 3G capabilities and a camera with LED flash. Perhaps soon enough, we will all see for ourselves. Because the phone has not yet been made available to the public, there is no word on the price. There are some alleged pictures of the phone floating around internet. Some blogs and/or websites have since taken them down. They can however, be still found on some sites.

Blackberry Curve 8520- the latest generation Smartphone

September 2nd, 2009

BlackBerry Curve 8520 smartphone_360The Blackberry Curve 8520 is featured with some capabilities that the users can be really proud of. The Smartphone is actually simple to carry and easy to use. The dedicated media keys of the phone are superb with a sleek design which feels light and soft in the palm of the users. Even the touchpad interface of Blackberry Curve 8520 is simply cool that makes easy navigation for the user’s benefit. The design of side keys have been changed a bit as compared to the other Blackberry phones in order to make the keys integrated into side band that means that they are sleeker and still functional.

The main vision behind introduction of the Blackberry Curve 8520 Deals is to provide the entry level phone and offer the latest update to Blackberry curve 8320 and 8310. This latest Blackberry phone addressed the needs and interests of people who are currently using the mid tier phone to move on to Blackberry Curve 8520 that is not just affordable, but meets the lifestyle needs of the users as well.

The multimedia and control music that are found on top of the phone are really interesting. The users can simply skip over their favourite tracks, pause the music or even repeat the best music time and again. With the complete QWERTY keyboard, the Blackberry Curve 8520 makes both typing as well as sending of messages comfortable. Even the right huge screen of the Smartphone displays more than 65,000 colours, offering marvellous viewing experience.

The users can further drag and drop the files from Blackberry Curve 8520 to the computer with the help of Roxio Media Manager. One can even transfer the videos and pictures between the phone and the computer using USB cable which comes in the phone box or via the Bluetooth.

Blackberry Curve 8520- Class all the way!

August 24th, 2009

BlackBerry Curve 8520 smartphone_360The Blackberry Curve 8520 is one of the new classy smartphones to be launched this year. Commonly known as the “Gemini”, the Blackberry Curve 8520 is quite different from the other devices launched in the market. For one thing, the phone is actually cheaper when compared to other Blackberry devices making it affordable for a wider customer base. In spite of this, it actually looks more expensive than it actually is as you have an optical navigation key instead of the ugly trackball that most Blackberry devices seem to favor. With a width of less than 15 mm, the Blackberry Curve 8520 is also quite thin and can be slipped into a pocket without any problem. You will get an unsightly bulge if you carry it around in a small pocket, but this is something that most Blackberry users are probably used to by now.

As expected, the Blackberry Curve 8520 is very user friendly. Typing out messages using the full QWERTY keyboard is a treat as each and every key on the keyboard clicks down with a soft satisfying click. The hardware of the phone is top class as the body of the phone is strong and can withstand a few mild accidents with little to show for it! If you are a techie who loves to run many applications simultaneously, you will not be disappointed as the operating system can handle it. This device uses Blackberry OS 5.0.

The connectivity options of the phone are pretty good both long distance and short. Long distance connectivity options include class 10 GPRS, class 10 EDGE and Wi-Fi. The only surprising downside to the phone is the fact that you cannot use it to connect to 3G networks. You can transfer data across a short distance using the USB or the Bluetooth.
