Socializing on the Net with the INQ Mini 3G

September 1st, 2009

inq-miniLeveraging on its successful Skypephone and a multi-awarded INQ1, the mobile phone maker INQ is releasing its INQ Mini 3G social networking handset with an eye towards the masses. Tightly integrated with Facebook, Skype and a new Twitter apps, as well as push mail and instant messaging, this new INQ offering spells two things: support for 3G and a mini version of it heftier and more muscled QWERTY kin – the INQ Chat 3G that gets released at the same time.

A great value

The INQ Mini 3G has modest imaging and multimedia features that is not only practical to use but adds to its excellent feature/price ratio. At a sub ₤100 price point you get the following:

  • It sports a 2.2” QVGA TFT screen supporting 256k colors
  • There’s a highly competent  2.0 megapixel camera,
  • You get 3G and 3.5G support with high speed connectivity support for HSDPA for fastest downloading speed on a mobile phone
  • Tight integration with social networking apps like Twitter and Facebook – the real edge from the INQ Mini 3G that makes them easy to use on the road
  • You get a unique media sync feature called doubleTwist enabling your desktop or laptop PC to sync multimedia files with the phone’s.

Just a few Caveats

There’s no WiFi or GPS. You need some file conversion tools to play Windows Media file formats on its otherwise competent media players.  Its bland conventional candy bar form is nothing to rave about but its one of the more pocket-friendly mobile phones out there.  A scant internal memory can be compensated with a microSD expansion card support and you will need a USB-to-3.2mm audio jack for listening to your MP3 files.

These apparent cost cuts reveal a rather prudent cutback on many of the features we’ve taken for granted.  But they don’t diminish the INQ Mini 3G’s social networking mobility features that is sure to appeal to the no-frills budget conscious crowd.
