Mobile phones need to get cranking on the green-house issue. LG announced the GD510 and they are showing that phones that are not built eco-friendly from the ground up, can still be retro fitted to harness renewable energy.
Well, not all device can use the solar paneled optional back casing for the GD510 (devices have to be compatible with the part too), but LG has shown that there are ways of making a device be more eco friendly (even better, a small solar hub that electric outlets can plug to). The solar panels are more novelty than function (though the 2.15 minutes of talk time for 10 minutes of sunlight is a good energy conversion rate). While not exactly saving the world, seeing the panels is a good, stylish and practical way or reminding us of our global responsibility.
The Pop’s Spec Sheet
LG GD510 Pop reviews agree, the device is well designed. It really does look like a television set; the way the LCD just merges into the edges gives you that flat screen beveled feel. This 3 inch TFT LCD is responsive and accurate when tracking finger movements –showing that it does more than look good. That’s pretty important too, the GD510 is touted to be almost 100% reliant on touch screen operation. A small context-sensitive LED-switching button on the lower right provides minor commands
Another impressive feature of the GD510 is its 8GB of internal storage. Now filling that up will actually take effort (unless you love watching videos on the go that is), compared to most smart phones, 8GB is huge. The 3 mega pixel camera on the other hand, is so-so in terms of specs, but practical in terms of use.
Where to Get the GD510
The LG GD510 Pop is currently available for free on plans by Orange Mobile, T-Mobile, Vodafone and on O2. Orange UK’s Dolphin 30 plan is a nice deal to start with for most individuals.

It was during the age of the Nokia 3310 that mobile phones were meant to be just that : a device for making calls and keeping in touch with people wherever you go. Texting was a secondary function and was seen to be more for the youth (the same perception still lingers even now). However, when looking at phones like the
