The Much Awaited Motorola Xoom is Now on the Market!

April 11th, 2011

The Motorola Xoom is the first Android based tablet computer launched by Motorola and is finally available in the market after so many rumours. Yes, the long awaited Motorola’s Xoom is now available for sale. The Motorola Xoom is running Google’s Android 3.0 Honeycomb OS with a Dual Core 1 GHz CPU NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor. The Xoom sports a 10.1 inch screen, both front and rear cameras, Google’ s tablet optimized version of Android, expansion slots and maxed-out RAM.

The Motorola Xoom has 1080p HD video playback streaming, 10 hours of video playback, extended memory with MicroSD cards, a 10.1 inch screen supporting 1280 x 800 pixel resolution, Bluetooth 2.1, micro USB, Wi-Fi, 3G connectivity, 32 GB inbuilt memory, and 720p HD video recording. Motorola’s 2011 Android tablet got a good response from critics and remains the most viable competitor to Apple’s iPad 2.

The Motorola Xoom is the first Android tablet with Google’s tablet specific honeycomb Operating System. It is fast, beautiful and the touch screen is highly responsive. It also has HDMI output for computer or television monitor viewing. Motorola has packed in some great hardware and 4G network compatibility, for those regions where 4G is available. A few problems have been encountered by some users, such as an overcomplicated user interface, a few minor bugs and a shortage of high quality Honeycomb specific apps. The Motorola Xoom is also a little more expensive and heavier than Apple’s iPad, but overall is a solid choice for anyone looking to pick up an Android tablet this year.

Carphone Warehouse Stocks Motorola Milestone

March 4th, 2010

The Motorola Milestone is now available to purchase from Carphone Warehouse. Plenty of Android fans in the UK have been waiting for the arrival of this smart phone since last year but it was snagged in an exclusivity deal with eXpansys. While many were still able to purchase the device at the strictly-online store, the rest of us waited for the day that the phone will actually be stocked in brick and mortar store shelves.

Now, the wait is over and Carphone Warehouse gets to offer the device to its clients under various deals from mobile network operators.

Orange Mobile, T-Mobile and Vodafone are all offering deals for the smart phone. The device comes with a Qualcomm 600MHz processor, the new Android 2.0 Éclair (though there are reports that it can be updated to version 2.1), and a 5 mega pixel camera. This smart phone managed to grab a lot of attention for being the first smart phone with the (then) new Google OS and for being one of the first Android mobile phones that make use of a slide out QWERTY keyboard.

The Milestone was originally launched as the Motorola DROID in the US under the carrier Verizon where it remains as an exclusive device. Motorola has since renamed the smart phone, enable multi touch capabilities and brought the device over to the UK.

Motorola is currently busy working on the next Google phone –or so rumors go. According to recent reports, the new Motorola Shadow project is currently paving the way for the Nexus Two –an Android smart phone with a keyboard and possibly a dual core processor. A Nexus Phone based on the DROID design certainly sounds right up Motorola’s alley.

Welcome to the Android Family: The Motorola Backflip

January 27th, 2010

Motorola BackflipThe Motorola Backflip was recently unveiled at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES). This is not standard operating procedure for most large mobile phone companies, but it seems as good as avenue as any. Individuals and press will be there to fawn over the newest, best and brightest electronics so why not make a big announcement about an upcoming product offering? During production the Backflip was referred to as ‘Enzo,” its code name. Today, it goes by its proper name, the Motorola Backflip. The phone is set to debut in retail stores sometime this year.

The Backflip is an android. It is Motorola’s third Android, following the Cliq and Droid. One of the coolest and most notable features on the phone is the keyboard. It is a foldover, reverse flip QWERTY keyboard. The phone’s name is obviously inspired by this unique feature. At first glance, the keyboard seems odd, but it really works nicely as designed.

The handset will first be released in the United States. Following that, it will hit stores in Europe. The Backflip comes with a 3.1 inch HVGA screen that is quite responsive. This is a good size and makes for decent screen. It has an impressive 5 megapixel camera. Many mobile phones, especially cheaper ones, will have a 3.0 megapixel camera or less, so this is quite nice.

One of the handset’s nicest features is the Backtrack. It allows individuals to flip through their emails, texts and photographs without blocking the main screen. The Backflip is on the 3G network, has Wi-Fi connectivity capabilities and GPS. Individuals will be able to benefit from the MotoBlur content delivery system which allows users to gather their phone content, emails and social networks in one place.

Overall, the Backflip looks like it will be a very nice handset. The specs are good. The selling price will make it easier to gauge the phone’s perceived value, at least from the company’s point of view. We will just have to wait to see what Motorola deals become available for the Backflip though, as there has been no official announcements just yet.

More leaks on the Motorola Droid

November 4th, 2009

Motorola MILESTONEIt’s been months of endless rumors, tips and leaked pictures of the Motorola droid. From the looks of it, the offering does have a high-end look, with slightly thicker packaging compared to the iPhone, but thinner than your usual QWERTY slider unit.

There are even plenty of talks that Google had direct hand in the development stages of the Motorola Droid, although no comment from either party was ever heard. If true, then we can say that it will be a droid to beat, but with not much difficulty, considering other high-end mobile devices are currently under work as well.

The leaked photos also showed the Motorola droid to have a capacitive touch display. Some are betting heavily it’s got between 3.7-inch screen, although some who have seen the pictures think it’s a little bit bigger. Although it’s certain that it will come with a desktop cradle charger, until it is released we will not now its multimedia station offering. Other details that had been leaked include CMDA connectivity,  GPS, Wi-Fi connectivity and Bluetooth, as well as a 3.5mm headphone jack.

The 5megapixel camera, as tips mentioned, would sure be a delight for shutterbugs. Particularly because we’ve been told as well that the camera could capture videos at DVD pedigree. This means being able to have 24 frames per second, zooming capacity and all that LED flashes and auto-focus abilities as well.
Other information about the Motorola Droid we have so far include a Webkit which includes HTML 5 and a Flash 10 support, a built-in 16 GB microSD and it has Amazon MP3, Facebook and Google applications pre-installed as well. If it could support the Google voice search, it should be just one point below being the perfect droid. The one point being: it should be available in the market soon.

Motorola ROKR ZN50- Music lovers rejoice!

August 27th, 2009

motorola-rokr-zn50-3The Motorola ROKR ZN50 is one of the new mobiles phones to be launched in the market as a device intended to target music lovers. The phone looks really good with its black outer casing and red highlights. The Motorola ROKR ZN50 has a range of connectivity features such as HSDPA which allow you to download files directly off the internet without any hassle. This makes the phone a good choice for anyone who wants to download music directly to the phone. Having 3G capability means that you can use the phone for video calling.

The TFT screen of the Motorola ROKR ZN50 can display up to 260000 colors making the display bright with vibrant colors when used to display your photos and videos. This touch screen is quite responsive and finger friendly.

If you want to transfer data across as short distance, you can use either the USB port or the inbuilt Bluetooth chip. The Bluetooth is sufficient to transfer a few small files. The stereo Bluetooth output allows you to listen to an audio output of decent quality using wireless headphones. Playing music aloud is also a feasible option as the loud speakers are actually quite good.

The Motorola ROKR ZN50 has a 3.15 MP primary camera which can be used to capture photos even in dim light. Photo clarity is not top class but is pretty good for a music phone. Unfortunately videos recorded turn out to be very unclear as even the individual frames can be distinguished from one another! The WAP browser version 2.0 allows you to view full length web pages. The FM radio with RDS completes the media features of the Motorola ROKR ZN50 as it allows you to know the exact details about what you are listening to.
