HP TouchPad coming June

March 15th, 2011

Samsung is releasing two tablets by the end of this month, Motorola has had their Xoom on the market for some time now and needless to say, you’ll be lucky if you can find an iPad 2 in stock anywhere in the world. Where does that leave HP? Well for one the company is left to compete with Blackberry for now in terms of launch dates as both tablets have so far unannounced release dates. That was until today!

In the company’s enterprise oriented conference and summit in San Francisco yesterday, the company CEO, Leo Apotheker, finally allowed the launch details of the TouchPad to leak, well sort of. The CEO himself said that the company will be releasing the tablet in the month of June. Unfortunately this does not jive well with Mr. Apotheker’s earlier comments that the company needs to bring devices to the market faster and stop allowing customers to wait.

With a launch date of June, this would put the TouchPad right around the launch time of the iPhone 5 which is speculated to hit retailers in that same month and would undoubtedly eclipse the launch of the TouchPad.

Even though a vague launch date was given, Leo did not go into specifics as to the details involving the launch such as availability, specific date (day etc.) and a price. To be honest, it would have been much nicer to get an idea of the price well before the release date.

At any rate, the company plans to bring webOS to the PC before the years end as well and although it will run ina  browser to begin with, the company plans to expand it to other form factors and services including using it as a dual boot of some sort.

Palm Pixi with Verizon Connectivity Found at FCC

December 15th, 2009

Palm PixiPalm Pixi, and its new WebOS platform is the latest palm phone to pass through the Courtyard of FCC. This is strange when you consider the fact that the mobile device has reached the market in the United States of America already. It does look like a case of putting the cart before the horse. All the same, the phone was able to get the approval required in the United States. The phone is expected to land in Verizon Wireless.

Palm Pixi is known for its rich features, some of which are: Bluetooth 2.1+ EDR, Ability to send and receive MM messages (Multimedia), SMS, Internet capability, 320 x 400 Pixel Resolution, 8GB of Internal Memory for storage, 2.6 inch touch screen display among others. These are just some of the wonderful features the phone carries.

The news coming out of Verizon Wireless indicates that the launch of this new device is likely to be early 2010. The market might actually witness the release of two mobile devices, because Verizon was already making plans to release to its customers the Palm Pre. When Pixi lands at Verizon, it is going to be carrying Wi-Fi functionalities. The addition of the Wi-Fi connectivity function will be sweet music to the ears of all; even as Sprint lacks this key feature, even though it claimed availability in Pixi.

The phone, which is only the second to be released to the mobile communication market by Palm, is expected to record a better performance considering its features earlier mentioned. Though the competition seems to be getting stiffer by the day, the chances are that phones like the Pixi should be able to hold its own. By the time it finally lands at Verizon Wireless, market expectations would be much higher and the product may not find it hard to gain some ground.
