Orange Mobile Snags All White XPERIA X10

March 23rd, 2010

When it comes to exclusive colors, white is hardly anything we would consider special. Aside from the fact that electronic gadgets in pure white tend to look bland, the white finish is also prone to getting visible dirt marks, scratches and other physical defects. The classic black finish is always the better choice. Anyway, we would have certainly preferred to see an original special color theme –such as deep red or ocean blue instead of a rather plain looking white.

The XPERIA X10 is expected to be released by April –next month. The Android smart phone will be squared off with the HTC Desire –another Android device running on the 1GHz Qualcomm QSD8250 Snapdragon processor. Both phones were originally announced last year and have been much awaited for by Android fans.

Aside from an impressively fast processor, the X10 is also equipped with a massive display; a 4 inch capacitive touch screen with a resolution of 480 x 854 pixels and it also has an 8 mega pixel camera (complete with SE’s face and smile detection software, geo-tagging, autofocus, LED flash and of course video recording –WVGA quality, 30 FPS).

Sony Ericsson has a couple more Android devices coming after April. Slated for a May 24 release date are the X10 Mini and the X10 Mini Pro. The devices we first shown off at the Mobile World Congress and internet based retailer eXpansys will be offering the device to customers.

The X10 Mini and the X10 Mini pro are smaller, streamlined versions of the X10 –made for mid range markets. The devices run on 600MHz processors -Qualcomm MSM7227’s and also have 2.55 inch capacitive touch screens; the Mini Pro comes with a slide out QWERTY keyboard. eXpansys will be offering the X10 Mini Pro for £340 and the X10 Mini at £300.

Sony Ericsson to Release New Update for Satio

March 9th, 2010

The Sony Ericsson Satio is one impressive little phone, it comes with a whooping 12 mega pixel camera, a 3.5 inch capacitive TFT touch screen with 360 x 640 pixels of resolution and an ARM Cortex A8 CPU running at 600MHz.

This powerful little Symbian device had a pretty rough start last 2009 as it was shaken down by problems in the firmware which caused it to power down and freeze. Despite the major advertising put in by Sony Ericsson to promote the device, it was out of commission for almost a full month before a fix for the OS finally came out.

Fortunately for Sony Ericsson, the fix was not just able to take care of the existing problem; it also improved the device’s battery life. They implemented the update not only on the Satio, but also on the Aino and the Kita as well in order to give better battery lives to the other models.

Anyway, reports indicate that Sony Ericsson will be bringing out a new update for the Satio, and while this patch may be fixing a few minor problems, it is primarily made to add new functionalities to the device.

First off, the new update will allow users to access Facebook a lot easier. A Facebook application will be added to the phone’s PlayNow menu while the camera will have instant access links to Facebook (for images) and YouTube (for videos).

Speaking of videos, the camera will now be given support for WVGA recording at 30 fps, and it will also have DLNA support for easy transferring of media. Lastly, the messages menu has been updated to allow users to see threaded views of conversations. The patch also adds a few graphical upgrades to the user interface.

Blunder or Not? Sony Ericsson turns Down Nexus One

February 22nd, 2010

Google Nexus One 4Apparently, many people see the choice of Sony Ericsson not to make the Google Nexus One as a critical mistake that has cost the joint venture some major publicity and a way to boost its reputation.

The argument stands that Sony Ericsson suffered greatly last 2009 and the chance to make the Google branded phone would have been good for business. In terms of reputation this is certainly true. Sony Ericsson was not doing well from a financial standpoint. Many still remember the news about the company letting of over 2000 workers and having to shut down offices in the US and facilities in parts of the world. The end of the year was not much better.

The Satio, which was heavily advertised and promoted, was suspended from sales for over two weeks due to firmware troubles. Getting a major device getting pulled off shelves from two major retailers such as Phones4U and Carphone Warehouse just before the holidays certainly dealt a big blow to the company -while the problem was eventually fixed and brought back the phone just in time for Christmas, the bad publicity already took its toll. Not to mention the XPERIA X2 also got delayed from its intended December launch date.

To cut things short, Sony Ericsson ended 2009 with losses of over 800 Million.

Many believe that Sony Ericsson should have made the Nexus One when it was offered. After all, as a general rule, refusing opportunity is never a good choice.

But in the very end, SE chose to stand by its ideals despite the things that were going against them. They believe in creating products only for their own brand and not being a sub contractor to another company. Its logical and a good decision, at least in terms of being consistent in their choices.

The Sony Ericsson Vivaz Functionality

February 5th, 2010

Sony Ericsson Vivaz 2There are some speculations about the new Sony Ericsson release and very little information is known about the Sony Ericsson Kurara, and a Symbian S60 operating system.  A press release came on January 21, 2010 with showing a presentation of the HD experience. In the press release, the Sony Ericsson Kurara is officially named as the Sony Ericsson Vivaz.  Sony Ericsson plans to release the Vivaz in the first quarter of 2010.  The mobile smartphone will help users have effective time management as well as having a little fun.

Taking a closer look at the mobile phone may convince some users that the phone is a necessity.  The phone is very lightweight and weighs a mere 97 grams. On the 3.2 wide touch screen, five icons on the up side will give the users the ability to access all the applications that they will need.  Users will have the option of tapping or swiping the touch screen to access their contacts, media files or the bookmarks.  Having all of the shortcuts at your fingertips, the email inbox and media player can be effortlessly launched.

Sony Ericsson Vivaz 1If users want to make a phone call they can simply tap the dialler and they will have the numbers on the screen. At the whim of a light touch the numbers can be dialled. The pre-stored numbers can be easily accessed by tapping on the phonebook icon and dialling a number could never be easier.  Dialling can be done much easier with a number that has been already used; clicking on the green button will bring up the dialling log which will display the recently used numbers.  Once the name is selected, clicking on the green button again will dial the number automatically.

Whether or not user’s text, use video calls or voice calls; the Sony Ericsson Vivaz mobile phone offers the users several ways to get your message across.  Users can add their preferred mode of communication to their favourite’s panel and tap on it and their favourite contacts and mode of communication will appear. The text messaging interface allows for easy usability and is highly functional.

Sony Ericsson Vivaz 4The Sony Ericsson Vivaz will be fun as well as you have the ability to listen to favourite songs via 3.5 mm audio jack. The TrackID feature will allow users to identify their songs, tracks, artists, and album information is mere seconds.  Users can browse their music of choice by identifying the album covers.  The smartphone offers some usable features that will help sustain everyday business processes. A particularly handy feature will be the notes that will help remind users of the important things they must accomplish and which day they need to accomplish it on via the calendar. It is useful if users are tired of constantly registering their daily task to their memory and if they forget, they can just look it up.  Think of it as “The electronic agenda” and a pocket desk that is adjusted to be fitted in your pocket and users can recheck information in a few mere seconds.  The phone also comes with an integrated flight mode, which disables radio receiver and transmitters for users so that they can concentrate and safely use the other functions associated.

This New Windows Mobile Phone is Earth Friendly

February 4th, 2010

Sony Ericsson AspenThere are plenty of eco-friendly novelties found in mobile phones; accessories and features such as solar panels have been around for quite some time. But these trite efforts are far from actually achieving actual change (though they do promote and reinforce the message).  This is why many electronic companies should learn a thing or two from Sony Ericsson.

Granted that the Japan-Sweden joint venture’s financial status is not to be envied, their manufacturing standards would put to shame all those waste spewing production facilities owned by their competitors (except Nokia, only Nokia managed to be greener than SE). The end-user fruit of Sony’s Earth conscious efforts come in the form of Greenheart products; mobile phones and accessories made with recycled plastic, non-toxic chemicals, water borne paints and minimal use of water, fuel and paper resources.

The new Sony Ericsson Aspen is a Windows Mobile smart phone that comes with all the usual trimmings. It has a 2.4 inch touch screen, a full physical QWERTY keyboard, and a 3.2 mega pixel camera –oh, and complete 3G connectivity.

Most importantly, the Aspen is a Greenheart phone. Yep, it is possible to make a fully functional smart phone with all the trimmings and compromising no features.

The device will be using the new Windows Mobile Maldives (version 6.5.3) operating system and will be skinning it using the proprietary Panels interface (which makes WinMo much prettier and easier to use). Originally, the Panels UI was present in the XPERIA X1 and X2.

This device will be taking up the XPERIA X2’s position in SE’s 2010 lineup and will be launching this April –just a month after the expected launch of the XPERIA X10 Snapdragon Android and the Vizaz HD Symbian.

Sony Ericsson set to release the phone of 2010 – the Xperia X10

January 28th, 2010

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10We all like to keep in touch, whether it be personal, social or business. There are times when we desperately need technology to help us stay in touch, and there are times where we cannot live without our phone! With the increase in popularity of social networking sites such as Facebook and MySpace, more and more people are turning to the internet as a means of keeping in touch. For the past couple of years, mobile phones have started to incorporate internet usage, and many now offer Facebook and MySpace applications that let you directly edit and change your profile from the touch of a button on your mobile phone.

The new phone from Sony Ericson, the Xperia X10 is set to be the next breakthrough in mobile phone technology. It features all the normal features of a mobile phone you would expect. Games, phonebook, notes, email messaging, text messaging, downloadable applications including navigation systems and music creators and so forth.

One of the main plus points of the phone is the new system called Timescape. This basically allows you to view all your messages within one window. For instance, if you have a new message on Facebook, MySpace and a new text message and email, you can view them all in the same window rather than having to go through window by window to reply to them which would take a long time. You can also reply to the messages from the same window saving you extra time. The new phone from Sony Ericsson is expected in the first quarter of 2010, and while a price tag has not been given at this time we should be able to expect some fantastic Xperia X10 deals to choose from.

Sony Ericsson Elm gives the environment a break

January 27th, 2010

Sony Ericsson Elm 2It is a known fact that humans are rapidly damaging the environment by pollution and harmful carbon emissions. Many companies are now taking a firm stand to combat these issues, and it seems to be doing the trick. The new phone from Sony Ericsson, the Sony Ericsson Elm phone is specially designed to cut down on harmful emissions during the manufacturing process.

The majority of the Elm’s outer cover is made from recycled plastic which allows the factories to not have to use new materials, thus creating harmful emissions. It also saves you money in the long run, if only by a little. The phone features a 5 megapixel camera, great for taking professional looking pictures on the go. Whether you want to take a snap of a once in a lifetime moment you come across, a beautiful location or just general funny times, the camera will be able to accommodate for it.

If you are an avid Facebook user, then you can upload the photos straight to your account by using the built in application which uploads them almost instantly. That saves you having to transfer the photo across to your computer, and then uploading it. The Elm also comes with navigation software installed. This allows you to input your current location, and your destination. The program will then guide you through step by step on how to get there, which roads to take and how long it will take. Everything you need to know is included, even road turning and potential hazards. Expected in the first quarter of 2010, you do not have to wait long to get your hands on one of these new Eco phones with Sony Ericsson deals.

Sony Ericsson Still Looking Forward Despite Financial Loss

January 26th, 2010

Sony Ericsson SatioThere is a lot to be said about the power of optimism, and Bert Nordberg, president of Sony Ericsson has plenty of it. The man stated that:

The refreshed portfolio, coupled with the business transformation programme has started to positively impact our financial results.

We will continue to focus on returning the company to profitability by establishing Sony Ericsson as the communication entertainment brand based on an exciting portfolio of mid- and high-end products, such as our recently announced Android-based phone, the Xperia X10.

2010 will still be challenging as the full benefit of cost improvements will not impact results until the second half of the year, however we are confident that our business is on the right track.”

Pretty claim from the man on top of a company that just lost over 800 million Euros in 2009 alone. The company’s losses has been brought to the headlines of news lately –after all, when the world’s fourth largest mobile phone manufacturer is losing billions, that really is something to be concerned about.

The one thing that many would want to ask is why does SE suffer from so many losses when other mobile manufacturing companies do not?

Some might blame it on sheer bad coincidence. But the more observant would point out the lack of foresight on the side of the company. Take the Sony Ericsson Satio, while many might say it was simply bad luck that the device suddenly started having problems, the real problem lies in the fact that the phone was mass produced and distributed without a rigorous quality check.

On the other hand, the XPERIA X2 did get a full check, but a little too late. The checking caused a major delay on the phone’s launch, causing it to get pulled out of Vodafone’s line up.

Head here for more the rest of the news; though we sincerely doubt that the Vizaz is a watered down Satio.

The Sony Ericsson Joins the Android Family

January 6th, 2010

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10Sony Ericsson has decided to manufacture their first Android Smartphone. From the reported specs, it looks like they have done everything to ensure that it will be a success. The phone has an incredible amount of features including a great camera and lots of memory.

One of the phones strongest suits is its camera. It has a whopping 8.1 megapixels and comes with facial recognition, LED flash, digital zoom, video and image stabilization, facial recognition, smile detection and geo-tagging support. All of these are great features but perhaps my favorite is facial recognition.

The Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 phone utilizes a 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. It also has Wi-Fi and Bluetooth capabilities. It comes with 1 GB of memory but much more can be added, up to 16GB. The Xperia X10 also has GPS to help individuals find their way around. It utilizes a 1500 mAh battery, weighs 135 g and is 63mm x 13mm x 119mm. The phone’s 4 inch touch screen has 65k colours. This is far less then the 16 million screens that many other smartphones have. We’re not sure why the company chose this route, but they did. Even still, the phone’s display is still clear and there are enough colors that people have a pleasant aesthetic experience. The phone’s video recorder capabilities are sufficient.

One of the Xperia X10’s great features is its camera’s facial recognition and tagging. If a person takes a photo and tags their face, any future pictures of them will be automatically tagged by the phone.

The Xperia X10 is Sony Ericsson’s first foray into the Android operating system. They have seemingly gone all out. This phone’s specs are very impressive and include an 8.1 megapixel camera with LED flash, facial recognition, smile detection, digital zoom and image stabilization. It also uses a fast processing system, lots of memory, WiFi and a roomy display screen.
