The Toshiba K01 – QWERTY Power for the People

February 24th, 2010

Toshiba K01 (2)One of the biggest drawbacks many people have been seeing with one of Toshiba’s latest big releases – the TG02 – is that despite the phone being powerful and coming with a capacitive touchscreen it lacked a tactile element brought about by QWERTY keyboards. While not all users need QWERTY to survive it can still be a deciding factor for many consumers, so to complement the release of the TG02 a similar QWERTY version was recently announced as well – the K01.

Housing a powerful combination of hardware and software just as the TG02, the K01 adds in a full-sized sliding QWERTY keyboard that nestles beneath the huge capacitive touchscreen, meaning users have the flexibility to use whichever they prefer at any given time for either direct touchscreen-based input or a more familiar keyboard approach.

Toshiba K01The addition of the QWERTY keyboard has done nothing to limit the power of the K01, however, and just like the touchscreen on TG02 the K01 comes packed with power and capabilities to keep its users connected and empowered wherever they may be. At the heart of the K01 driving the machine is a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, helping ensure that every aspect of the phone operates quickly and effectively. Many people believe this is actually a necessity rather than a nice addition, however, due to the fact that the K01 is a Windows Mobile device and this operating system is well-known for being a resource hog on whatever machine houses it (as even HTC’s HD2 released last year demonstrated). Still, a 1GHz processor is enough to power the phone under most normal settings and the added functionality Windows Mobile brings to the system is well worth any potential lag time it may bring with it.

A major selling point of the K01 is, for many people, its pure size and power coupled with a 4.1 inch high-resolution touch screen. Toshiba has even announced that the screen utilizes many of the same features that are found in their Regza line of flatscreens, meaning higher resolution and clarity under different lighting situations and from different angles in order to help ensure visibility from all angles.

For those worrying about other hardware specs for the phone storage is able to be expanded comfortably using microSD cards and can allow the phone to handle up to 32GB at any given time. This would most likely be best suited for use with various other media such as music or movies as pictures snapped by the phone won’t take up much space given the limited 3.15 megapixel camera. The plus side of the camera, however, is that the phone comes with a built-in photo editor to allow direct manipulation of whatever photos you take along with GPS geotagging for sharing with your friends and family online.

For those who are socially inclined as well the K01 comes with a wide range of connectivity options found in most modern smartphones (Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPRS, etc.) in addition to applications to allow you to keep directly in synch with various social networking applications such as YouTube, Facebook and Twitter. This is an excellent feature for both social aficionados that like to keep their peers or followers up to speed on their current activities at any given time as well as professionals who utilize social networking for marketing purposes.

As for the actual expected release date of the K01 that is still uncertain, though many industry analysts believe that it will come hand-in-hand with some of the other releases recently announced by Toshiba and should be seen sometime in early to mid 2010. Most likely the phone will hit the shelves in the second quarter of the year, though this is still to be determined by Toshiba at this date.

    Toshiba TG01

    August 9th, 2009

tg01The Toshiba TG01 is surely a serious contender for the trophy for best smartphone ever. Why? Just a cursory glance at the specifications sheet should reveal enough. Just look at the fields ‘Processor’, ‘Dimensions’ and ‘Screen’. The phone incorporates a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, a super slim waist – line of a scarcely believable 9.9 mm and a massive 4.1 inch screen which is sure to make plenty of mouths water. The phone is sure to knock over the likes of the Nokia N97 and the Apple iPhone 3GS in its quest for supremacy in the smartphone market.

The most notable feature, as mentioned earlier, about the Toshiba TG01 is the dimensions of the phone. The phone is an amazing 9.9 mm and has a big screen, which explains the reason for the unusually big width of the phone. Due to these two factors, you might not feel extremely comfortable putting the phone in a tight jeans pocket as it might feel like it will break! However, the screen is absolutely great for watching movies on the go as well as to do some big – time web browsing.

The 3.2 megapixel snapper of the Toshiba TG01 is not really something to boast about. However, with a 3.2 megapixel camera, there shouldn’t be too much expectations of the camera. There are a couple of features such as autofocus, timer and a variety of resolutions, but one does feel that a camera at least like the iPhone 3GS would’ve been greatly appreciated. However, the lack of a flash is a slight disadvantage, but that won’t be a big deal if you are occasionally going to take pictures. Video playback is quite good on the phone, largely due to the massive screen.

The phone has already been made available since June earlier this year and can be obtained on contracts.

You Can Buy Toshibas TG01 On Orange UK

    July 22nd, 2009

toshiba-tg01-iphone-3g-comparisonDetails of the Toshiba TG01 outed on Orange UK last month have confirmed the availability of the mobile phone in UK from 10th July. Orange UK is the exclusive carrier and the mobile can be got for free which will have a 2 year contract. You will have to pay a minimum of £39.15 every month in the plan. This plan is available with 1,200 minutes from several network voices.

TG01 Release has been welcomed by the consumers as they have been waiting for this handset for some time now. Orange has made known its exclusive agreement with Toshiba, and they will be the solitary carriers of Toshiba’s TG01 in the UK.  There will be an orange event to release the mobile phone. The TG01 is a very professional Smartphone with several interesting attractions. The 1GHz Snapdragon powered handset will be accessible in stores soon.

There are 2 prominent aspects which make the TG01 stand out.  The straight away noticeable feature is the display, which is a huge 4.1-inch 800 by 480 touch screen. The second thing which may take a while longer to realize, is the processor; TG01 is the foremost Smartphone to be launched with a Qualcomm’s 1GHz Snapdragon chipset. This makes Toshiba the quickest WinMo phone. TG01 is just 9.9 millimeter thick with a 3.1 megapixel camera and YouTube support.

The first impression of the newly launched Toshiba user interface is practical, but it does not have the profoundness and cross-OS reliability of TouchFLO 3D. Otherwise it is striking and receptive to the touch.  Not much can be said about the flexibility in customization for the users but Orange has put their mark by including shortcuts in many of the portals. Orange will transport the handset preloaded with a special G.I. Joe film trailer and it will be the initial Toshiba mobile phone in the Signature Series from Orange.
