Samsung i5700 Galaxy Lite to be Renamed

November 13th, 2009

Samsung Galaxy Lite i5700Rumors are saying that the Samsung i5700 Galaxy Lite which has been announced since last September will be using a different name when it finally launches next year. The news came out around the same time Samsung said they will no longer be having the November 2009 release of the device. Pretty bad marketing tactics for Samsung as two major competitors of the device have also started to take their share of the spotlight. In fact, with so many Android devices coming out this year, it is surprising that Samsung has opted to push back the launch date.

Several Samsung i5700 reviews are coming out lately with new information regarding the device, particularly about the supposed name change. Reports are saying that the new name will be Galaxy Spica. It seems like a fitting and catchy name for the device, but with the general public already familiar with the name Galaxy Lite, they might be releasing new ads and releases to make the new name better known.

The Specs

Several details may have changed regarding the name and release date, but Galaxy Lite specifications have not changed since the device was first introduced. It has been finally confirmed however, that instead of the TouchWiz interface, the Lite, or Spica, will be using the Google Android version 1.5 Cupcake. Aside from that, everything else is as is, from the 3 inch AMOLED touch screen to the 3.2 mega pixel camera. The Lite will also have 1 GB of internal storage, WiFi, 3G HSDPA, GPRS and EDGE support. As a 3G phone, it will naturally have quad band support.

Availability

Since the announcement that the device will be delayed to next year, local carriers have yet to finalize Samsung Galaxy Lite contracts. Still, expect this device to be made available for free on most plans.

Samsung i5700 Galaxy Lite – Samsung Finally Adopts the Android Platform

October 16th, 2009

Samsung Galaxy Lite i5700As various mobile phone manufacturers are slowly moving towards the Android platform with the growing popularity of the operating system developed by Google, Samsung has also made its debut with the release of Samsung Galaxy i7500. Samsung seeks to even strengthen its grip on this dimension of the mobile telecommunications as it announces a second phone with the Android operating system called Samsung i5700 Galaxy Lite. However, don’t expect it to be released any time before the year 2010 starts. Like the Samsung i7500, the i5700 Galaxy Lite features a 3.2” AMOLED touch screen with a resolution of 320 x 480 pixels and 24 bit color. The phone is fuelled by a Li-ion 1500 mAh battery.

Samsung i5700 features network connectivity modes like GPRS, EDGE, HSDPA, HSUPA and GSM. The phone will also feature support to Wi-Fi connectivity like the Samsung i7500. A noticeable difference between both the phones is the fact that Samsung i5700 features a 3.2 mega pixel camera as compared to the 5.0 mega pixel camera that is featured in the Samsung i7500. This factor, added by the lower 200 MB internal memory of Samsung i5700 as compared to the 8GB internal memory of Samsung i7500, gives you the impression that Samsung i5700 will surely be the cheaper version of the i7500.

As the phone is equipped with the Android feature, it obviously comes with all its benefits, including the Google Chrome browser, Gmail, Google Talk, Google search, maps, calendar, Android market and other information services. Other features of the phone include Bluetooth, USB, GPS, voice recording, speakerphone, 3.5 mm headphone jack and multimedia playback with support to file formats such as MP3, WMA and MPEG-4.

Samsung i5700 will help strengthen Samsung’s grip on the market of Android mobiles, especially if it lies in a relatively affordable price range but will also be available on Samsung i5700 Galaxy Lite contract as well.
