Granted the iPhone 4 is almost a year old, but has still sat on top of the sales chart among UK subscribers. That all changed last month when Samsung toppled the king and took the coveted #1 spot in sales.

Those familiar with the Samsung Galaxy S II specs should not be surprised as the 1.2GHz dual-core processor trumps that of the 1GHz single-core A5 chip in the iPhone. More importantly the GSII sports an 8MP camera with a 1.3MP front facing one and 1080p video shooting and of course the highly touted Super AMOLED Plus screen.

Of course, there’s more to the story than just specifications – the most significant difference between the two handsets lies in the software. Apple’s iOS operating system, found in all iPhones, has been in a fierce head to head battle with Google’s Android OS for quite some time now and though the iPhone brand still tends to give Apple the edge, this swing in sales is a significant victory for Android.

Except for the iPhone 4 at 2nd and the BlackBerry Curve 8250 at 9th, the top 10 was mostly uninterrupted by non-Android devices and HTC dominated most of the top seats though Samsung still took the number one seat. If you fancy picking up the top selling phone, you can compare Galaxy S II deals here.

Rightly so, it has the qualities of the Amazon Kindle, the multitouch wonders and apps of the iPhone, the multimedia prowess of the iPod Touch and all of these in a tablet with a 9.7-inch screen. Then came the Samsung Galaxy Tab. It stopped the iPad’s march right on its tracks.

Size Doesn’t Always Matter

For a tablet computing gadget, size has its appeal. A bigger screen never fails to make the multimedia viewing a more pleasing experience than on a smaller screen. That’s the appeal of the iPad.

It’s a bigger iPhone and a bigger iPod Touch in one plus some nifty features. But the Samsung Galaxy Tab shows that size isn’t everything. It’s bigger than the biggest smartphone on the planet will all the telephony and connectivity features, plus, it has the size advantage to fit a large pocket or a hand bag at 190 x 120.5 x 12 mm and weighing 380g.

Better Features

It has a 3.2-megapixel camera with autofocus, LED flash and D1 video recording at 30fps. It also has 3G video call support with a front facing 1.3 megapixel camera. It has a microUSB v2.0 slot and topping it off, it runs on a true multitasking Android v2.2, which is today’s hottest OS on any mobile gadget. All this the Apple iPad misses out.

Apart from that, the Samsung Galaxy Tab matches just about every feature on the iPad. You have the same 1Ghz ARM Cortex A8 processor with PowerVR SGX540 graphics accelerator under the hood. With a choice of 16GB or 32GB variant, it has all the radio and data connectivity options starting with a quad band GSM/ GPRS/ EDGE on 2G and a tri band UMTS/HSDPA/HSUP on 3G while local connectivity comes with WiFi 802.11 b/g/n and Bluetooth v3.0 with A2DP.

Other features include GPS receiver and A-GPS support, TV-out jack and 3.5mm headphone jack and a 4,000 mAh Li-ion battery that allows up to 7 hours of movie playback. Considering the Samsung Galaxy Tab offers available, this tablet really is an excellent choice.

Samsung has offered a number of spectacular mobiles in the market since they entered the industry. In fact they are already considered as one of the leading mobile manufacturers around the world.

The Samsung Wave 723 is yet another impressive Smartphone from Samsung that features the Bada operating system. The look and design of this mobile is considerably stunning as well. Now, let us talk more about this exciting offering.

The Appearance

At first glance it is noticeable that the Samsung Wave 723 has a resemblance to the Samsung Star. It is primarily because both of them have a leather flap located in the front of the mobile to protect the screen. However, its metallic body makes it distinct from the Samsung Star.

The capacitive touch screen measures 3.2 inches that offers a resolution of 240 x 400 pixels. It is compatible with 256k colours making the display more vibrant thus enhancing the viewing experience.

The colour scheme of the Samsung Wave 723 is plain black. It projects simplicity in design but at the same time exudes elegant look as well. It is perfect for those who like a simple yet fully functional mobile.

Functionality

This handset is compatible with both 2G and 3G networks, so Samsung Wave 723 contracts should be available for both. In terms of data connectivity, it offers GPRS, EDGE, HSDPA, and Wi-Fi of course. It is fair to say that this mobile is very reliable when it comes to internet browsing as it offers faster speeds as well.

It also sports a 5MP camera perfect for those who love taking pictures. There are some added features to enhance the picture quality like auto focus and smile detection. An LED flash is present to help capture beautiful photos even with minimal lighting. Video recording is available as an alternative to capture special occasions or events.

The Samsung Wave 2 Pro is obviously, the bigger brother of the Wave 2. Although at first glance, these two Smartphones may look exactly alike, the primary difference between the two is that the Wave 2 Pro offers a built-in QWERTY keyboard which slides out from the side. Other than this, the two are almost exactly alike – fairly priced Smartphones that deliver the functions that you need.

Good Business

As the name implies, the Samsung Wave 2 Pro is a Smartphone that caters to the more professional users. Testament to this fact is the full QWERTY keyboard on the device which is an absence in its younger brother. The addition of this key feature means that it will be easier for users to compose longer messages using the device. This makes it more email-friendly as it allows users to bring their work with them while they’re on the go.

The QWERTY pad slides out from the side of the device and you’ll have to rely on the accelerometer censor to facilitate the auto-rotate function on the Smartphone so that you can use it on landscape mode.

Adding Some Fun in Functional

The Samsung Wave 2 Pro isn’t all about serious business. It also sports a number of features that makes the device enjoyable as well. For starters, there’s a very user friendly multimedia player on board the device which is compatible with most file formats of today.

If you get tired of listening to your stored tunes then you can very easily switch on the FM radio. If you hear a song that you like, you can make use of the FM recording feature of the Samsung Wave 2 Pro and add this new tune to your growing playlist.

This Smartphone is also equipped with a 3.15 MP camera which you can use to capture candid moments wherever you go.

The mobile network operators have been trying to win over consumers with promotions, smart phone exclusivity deals and superiority in basically every facet and aspect they have as an advantage that is applicable to the mobile phone industry.

One of the things that Vodafone tried out not so long ago was the range of bespoke Vodafone 360 units. Thing is, if you were one of the people who grabbed one of the said handsets, such as the Samsung manufactured M1 and H1 range, and enjoyed using the device then there is very bad news for you.

Those who are looking forward to upgrading their mobile phones with the latest 360 handset will not be able to. Vodafone has given an official announcement that no more bespoke 360 phones will be made and released following their Samsung made units. The company will, instead, focus on the development of their 360 services and will be including their 360 platform on company released handsets. This is a snippet from the official announcement posted by Vodafone:

“From now we will be focusing all efforts on expanding the range of handsets and platforms that support Vodafone 360 and in developing and enhancing the suite of Vodafone 360 services. Consequently there will be no further development of bespoke Vodafone 360 handsets.”

That means that the company’s follow up to the Samsung made H1, the H2, will also consequently cease production. As of now, the company’s 360 service allows people to access contacts on different mobile phone units. It also gives users access to many music files, downloadable video clips as well as mobile games via their 360 shop.

With the halt in bespoke devices, the company will have all the means to focus on delivering noteworthy developments in terms of apps and all the time to improve their services further.

Superbly engineered to carry a bevy of hefty features in its 118 gm, 9.9 mm thin frame, it boasts a big capacitive touchscreen, a 5 MP camera, up to 32 GB of storage, and fast 3G access.

Visual real estate

Users overlook the Samsung Galaxy S as being slightly larger than most touchscreen phones, knowing that it is merely a fair trade-off for a bigger, more advanced display. The phone comes with a generous 4-inch Super AMOLED touchscreen with a 16 million colour display at 480x 800 pixels resolution. This bigger piece of visual real estate means less eyestrain when reading emails and more enjoyment when watching videos, viewing images and playing games.

Other screen advantages

A bigger screen on the Samsung Galaxy S also means a more dynamic and easier way to navigate the phone’s TouchWiz 3.0 user interface. The screen comes with an accelerometer which automatically rotates the UI to adapt to the phone’s orientation, whether in portrait of landscape mode. The user interface has touch-sensitive controls, a proximity sensor for automatic device shutdown, and responds to multi-touch input method.

Simple touch navigation

Creating documents and composing emails on the Samsung Galaxy S touchscreen just became easier with the inclusion of the Swype text input which enables intuitive typing on the display’s virtual QWERTY keyboard. There’s no more need to wade through a confusion of menus as the TouchWiz UI provides multiple home screens which allows users to quickly access their desired file with a mere swipe of a finger.

Audio and visual entertainment on the go is just a finger swipe away. The i9000 comes with a versatile media player which is instantly accessible on the home screen. The player enables the user to play back both music and video files with stunning clarity using simple touch navigation.
